The species has always been of interest due to its level of organization, economic importance, pollination and its contribution to the production of beneficial products for humans.
Previously, bees were raised and reproduced naturally through swarms, however, the arrival of beekeeping brought advantages such as better honey collection and better health. Leaders in Movement and Toks
University Leaders in Motion ( LeM) , is a leadership program of the Mexican Business Council ( CNM ) that seeks to recognize and promote young talent within the 60 companies that comprise it—including Grupo Gigante—as well as enhance academic development. and professional of their collaborators and/or that of their daughters and sons.
A component of the LeM program is the Practical Challenge with Businesses . It consists of solving as a team and remotely a real problem posed by one of the companies that make up the CNM, in this case: Toks.
Toks is a Mexican restaurant committed to carrying out practices that benefit the environment, communities, vulnerable sectors and young Mexicans. On this occasion he decided to join one of the program's projects, focusing his attention on Mexican beekeepers. By doing so, two objectives will be achieved: developing young talent, and improving the work of a social sector that is beneficial for the environment.
How will the Practical Challenge be carried out?
Beekeepers or hivekeepers are those people who are dedicated to caring for and keeping bees in excellent condition to obtain certain benefits from them: pollination, production of honey, pollen, wax, royal jelly and poison.
Unfortunately, currently many Mexican beekeepers have the following problems:
They are not formally constituted under a legal entity.
They do not have collection centers.
There is no “brand” that represents the group.
They do not have resources to buy supplies.
So in this program, students must design, build and operate a strategy so that the chosen association: Hidalgo Corazón de Abeja, made up of beekeepers from Hidalgo, Mexico; can market their products outside their community at fair prices without this representing extraordinary costs for them.
To achieve this, the program was responsible for forming a total of 20 teams of 5 people. Each team will solve a different problem. So 5 students will focus and work on this one.
The objective is to work on a project that provides solutions to the main needs of the group of beekeepers. Among these are:
Formalization of each business.
Customer acquisition.
Improvement in sales processes.
Logistics development.
Students must work for 5 months (June-November 2020) with their remote teams and make 4 partial deliveries of their progress and one final delivery.
The skills that we seek to develop or strengthen in them are:
Research applied to solving problems and tasks in the real business world.
Ability to solve problems and perform complex tasks explicitly incorporating feasibility and ethical dimensions.
Teamwork.
Creativity and rigor.
Frustration tolerance.
Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively.
Emphasis on innovative results of high quality and impact.
However, to help the students have a better focus and perspective on the problem, Toks was in charge of bringing together members of the Hidalgo Corazón de Abeja beekeeper group so that each of them could tell a little about their story and how they came to be. to this area.
Toks Social Responsibility
The importance of this initiative, as well as many others that Toks has achieved, lies in the fact that it can have mutual value and benefit for the interested parties. This is aligned with SDG 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the UN: Alliances to achieve goals.
For a development agenda to be successfully delivered, it is necessary to establish inclusive partnerships on principles and values, as well as a shared vision and objectives that focus on people and the planet. And Grupo Gigante, together with Toks, is achieving it!
However, this is not the first time that Toks is concerned about a sector that is fundamental for the environment and the economy. Since 2003, through his Productive Projects initiative , he has managed to empower hundreds of beekeepers in the Amuzga Mountain of Guerrero and has committed to the preservation of bees in the area.
It has also recognized the work of certain people and collaborators who are responsible for preserving beekeeping techniques and defending bees in Mexico, while promoting the work of artisans from Nezahualcóyotl, State of Mexico; with the making of 6,000 stuffed bees for the restaurant chain, in order to raise awareness among consumers about the importance of these insects.
Without a doubt, this new program, like previous initiatives, will have great results and benefits for bees and a vulnerable sector that requires all our support, as well as us from them.
